Nintendo has launched their annual recap of your gaming habits — except this year's are less informative than usual. Here are mine.

Absent from this year's metrics is total number of hours played. The total number of games is present, but in an obscured fashion (mine was 43). In place of those two prominent summaries, we get… games we played on the day they came out. Mine are a free demo of Nintendo Switch Sports and a indie puzzle game called Tile Flip that I picked up for a dollar and played exactly once. Not exactly representative of my year in games. And the "3+ years of play" seems borked, as Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered released on 13 Nov 2020 — just two years and a month ago. Hardly "more than three years"!
The above cards list only my top three games; here is a list of my top seven:
- Hollow Knight: 17 days, 38 hours
- Spiritfarer: 8 days, 21 hours
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: 17 days, 17 hours
- RingFit Adventure: 29 days, 16 hours
- Kathy Rain: 4 days, 10 hours
- Twelve Minutes: 4 days, 7 hours
- Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered: 8 days, 6 hours
I don't have a great record of completing games, but it tracks that the ones I spent the most time with are the ones I finished: Hollow Knight, Spiritfarer, RingFit Adventure, Kathy Rain, and Twelve Minutes. I started RingFit in 2020 and Spiritfarer in 2021, so it was especially satisfying to finally close those books.
My upcoming year-end recap will list every game I played in more detail, so stay tuned!
