The following is a collection of goals I want to achieve, or have achieved, in my life. Some of them are things I am actively working toward; others are wishful thinking. A goal may become one or the other at any moment. Most
are somewhat trivial and fairly old, so I'm no longer passionate about
working toward them, but nonetheless, it'd still be neat to add the following
to my resume:
- Program the IIgs
- I've released a few programs for
the Apple IIgs, but all written in simple languages and none that were
particularly useful to anyone but me. I'd like to contribute to the community
that's given me so much! Some ideas:
- Dragon Warrior Central
- Mad Libs & Hangman - scripts to convert from GEnie & Delphi to Syndicomm
- Learn DVORAK
- If I'm going to be a writer for a living, learning to type at 100 WPM would
definitely be useful.
- Become Physically Fit
- I am way out of shape. I eat well, but that doesn't mean much without the
appropriate exercise. Summer 2003: bicycled 10-15 miles a week, nightly pushups. 2004: belonged to a gym for 11 months. Started walking and bicycling to work.
- Become Syndicated
- I had a newspaper column, but its
regular weekly circulation was at most only 20,000. I'm convinced there are other publications out there that would want this kind of material.
- Write a Book
- I'm flexible on this one. I haven't had much luck writing fiction, but I'd
like to at least contribute to a book, be it a video game strategy guide or a
Star Trek anthology or something.
- Earn my Skydiver's License
- I've skydived, but
I was scared shitless. Doing it often enough to earn a license would be the
ultimate overcoming of fear. Plus, once one is licensed and has one's own
equipment, jumping is incredibly affordable - something like $5/1,000 feet.
- Be Recorded on a CD
- I'm not on any store bought CDs, but WPI has released a few CDs with performances by the Glee Club, of which I
was a member. Good luck picking me out, though.
- Own a European Car
- I like to be "different"; having a car with the steering wheel on
the wrong side would definitely fall under this category.
- Learn to Play the Piano
- ... or any other instrument! But the piano seems such a magical
instrument, capable of invoking a wide variety of emotions. I absolutely
must be able to play Rachmaninoff's "Theme on Paganini" for my
soulmate.
- Visit Australia
- Achieved in term D00 thanks to my IQP!
- See the Northern Lights
- Mother Nature is capable of amazing acts of beauty. I'd like to experience
more of them while they're still around.
- Go to Masseur School
- I like people to feel relaxed around me, especially after a long day of
work. I can't think of a better way to help them feel so than a good massage.
- Tap Dance Lessons
- Accomplished! I took eight weeks of tap when I was in high school, then
ten more immediately after graduating from college. Although not very useful,
tap is so fun and energetic, I'd like to be able to put my shoes back into use.
I'd like to do it some more and become better at it.
- Become a Private Investigator
- I read that it is very easy to become a licensed private investigator.
Though it may not be something I'd use professionally, I think it would be very
cool to have such a license.
- Visit All 50 States
- Since 1998, I haven't been to the following states: Hawaii; Alaska;
Kentucky; Oklahoma; Iowa; Wisconsin; North Dakota; Minnesota; West Virginia.
22-Jul-03: Reached Iowa.
- Learn Another Language
- Though I may not have the capacity to be fluent in another language, I
think learning Japanese, French, Italian, or sign language would prove useful
and fun! First choice: sign-language; second: French.
